Show Boat Ratings & Reviews
Mister Arn
May 22, 2025
As a remake, I liked the color, the opening scene, and the rendition of "Old Man River." But of the two, I preferred the 1936 version.
Christian Science Monitor
B.R. Crisler
Above all, Show Boat represents the fine, artificial flower of America's golden age of professional competence in the popular arts.
From the Front Row
Mattie Lucas
It piles on the Technicolor spectacle, with each number feeling like a finale, making for an experience that feels bloated and over-stuffed, full of flash and visual pizazz but lacking any real stakes or sense of emotion.
Film Frenzy
Matt Brunson
A showcase for some eye-popping Technicolor dreams.
Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews
Dennis Schwartz
A much weaker Show Boat version than the 1936 one by James Whale.
Mountain Xpress (Asheville, NC)
Ken Hanke
Okay, but not a patch on the 1936 James Whale film.
